I don’t know about you, but there is something about night events that make them all the more fun for me. Take Formula 1 Racing. It is an event that has been traditionally held during the day. When they initiated the first night race ever in Singapore last year, droves of people went to see the race.
Another event that is normally held during the day is horse racing, but who says we can’t have night races? No one! And the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission agrees! The Commission has given permission to Churchill Downs to run 3 night races in this year’s spring meet. Biz Journals has this story:
Churchill Downs plans to run night races on Friday, June 19, Friday, June 26, and Thursday, July 2.
Each date would feature an 11-race card, with the first post time at 6 p.m. and the final race to run about 11 p.m., Darren Rogers, senior director of communications for Churchill Downs, told Business First last week.
The track will lease temporary lights to set up around the track and in parking lots.
I am betting that the people running Churchill Downs are quite excited about the approval. Furthermore, I am pretty sure that they are not the only ones who are looking forward to these night races.
More than the night races, however, the news is that they will be offering new wagers for the spring meet. Here are a few more details:
-50-cent Pick 4 wager during the spring meet
-a multi-day $1 Pick 3 wager in which bettors much select the winners of the Kentucky Oaks, Kentucky Derby and Woodford Reserve Turf Classic races.
