It was a helluva race.

Everyone, I think, was rooting for Zenyatta (around the world), but the mare just came up a head short in an absolutely spectacular stretch run.

If the race was just a few yards longer, she would have won.

No doubt.

But let’s give Blame some credit, he held off the hard charging Zenyatta to win.

To me, this race does nothing to tarnish Zenyatta’s reputation.

What heart. Whatta horse.

She was dead last most of the race.

Blame went to the front in the middle of the stretch, then fought off another spectacular bid from the unbeaten Zenyatta to win by a head.

Blame, a 4-year-old horse covered the 1 1/4-mile distance in 2:02.28 as a 5-to-1 shot.

Fly Down held on for third, while Preakness champion Lookin At Lucky finished fourth.

In other Breeders’ Cup races Saturday at Churchill Downs:

• Dangerous Midge chased down frontrunning Champ Pegasus in the final yards to win the $3 million Breeders’ Cup Turf on Saturday at Churchill Downs.

The victory was the 10th Breeders’ Cup win for jockey Frankie Dettori. The Italian rider celebrated with his signature flying dismount.

In the next few days you’ll be reading all about this race.

It’s why I love horse racing.
