Nicky Henderson has been the man to follow in the big races on a Saturday so far this National Hunt season. However the master of Seven Burrows will not be winning the biggest prize in the sport, The Grand National as he doesn’t have a runner entered in this year’s race.
Many believe the major strength in the Henderson string is with the hurdlers, and the fact that he doesn’t have a staying chaser to enter in the Aintree showpiece backs up this opinion and it will come as no shock to the many fans who have been following his efforts in recent months and years. It also means that anyone lucky enough with a Grand National free bet to place won’t be able to place it on one of the famous trainer’s charges.
2011 will be the second consecutive year that Henderson has not been represented in the Aintree Grand National so followers of the powerful yard will be looking elsewhere when they make their National selections, although that doesn’t mean that punters shouldn’t consider following Henderson’s horses in the numerous other contests he will be targeted.
Another factor to consider with no Henderson runners in the race will be the availability of Barry Geraghty. Paul Nicholls has used the crack Irish rider in the race in the past and with the champion trainer having no less than ten entries in the race this year, the chances are that Geraghty will again get the call from Ditcheat this year.
