The month of July is packed with plenty of treats and variations for the flat racing fan with two of the seasons major Festivals taking place on the most picturesque of the courses in Great Britain. There are 28 Group races in the month with six at Group 1 level, 12 Group 2’s and 10 Group 3 races and it’s one of those Group 1’s – the Coral Eclipse that gets the ball rolling right at the start of the month as we see the first major test between the Classic generation and the older horses.
Sandown hosts that race and then the racing caravan moves onto three days of splendid action at the Newmarket July course. There will be plenty of horse racing betting tips on offer.
This meeting has been moved back in the calendar and now takes places on a Thursday – Saturday basis with plenty of Group race action in the offing. The main two races bookend the three days with the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes on the Thursday before the highlight of the entire meeting, the Darley July Cup, on the Saturday and plenty of the speedsters from Royal Ascot will be opposing each other again. The racing betting suggests they should be close races.
Talking of Royal Ascot we move back to the Berkshire course without the “Royal” moniker this time as we get another clash of the generations in the Group 1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes. That race provides the perfect opener to a week which moves swiftly on to Glorious Goodwood, and if the sun shines there, there is no more beautiful place to go racing.
The racing should be something to look forward to also with two Group 1 events and the Sussex Stakes on Wednesday could produce one of the races of the season with a mouth-watering clash between Frankel and Canford Cliffs likely to take place.
Top-class action takes place throughout the entire five days concluding with the final Group 1 of the month as the fillies contest the Nassau Stakes and then one of the big handicap sprints of the year – the Stewards’ Cup – provides a magnificent cavalry charge on the Saturday across the Sussex Downs. July is quite a month for the flat racing fan and some of the action will provide the highlights of the 2011 flat season.
