Master Minded will begin his season on Saturday in the Old Roan Chase at Aintree over 2m4f.

The Paul Nicholls’ trained runner returns to the course he succeed at by nine length on his latest appearance in the John Smith’s Melling Chase during the Grand National meeting in Merseyside.

Nicholls had entered stablemate Tataniano into the race, but has instead decided to run him at Chepstow over a shorted trip of 2m1/2f. People looking at the online betting tips will be keeping a close eye on him.

Master Minded will be up against rival Albertas Run once again, the Jonjo O’Neill-trained runner finished second behind the two-time Champion Chase winner in the Melling Chase.

Nicholls’ runner has beaten Albertas Run on both of their previous meetings; however, he will have to give 10 pounds in the weights to his rival this time around.

Master Minded’s owner Clive Smith has expressed his delight at seeing his horse on the racecourse once again.

“I’ve spoken to Paul Nicholls and we’re definitely going, which is great news,” he said.”I love the Flat racing but when you own jumpers, this is what it’s all about and I can’t wait to get started.

“Master Minded worked this morning and is in good shape, so we look forward to Saturday.”

There will be no Monet’s Garden in the race this year, he has won this race three times out of the last four years, but has since retired. Instead trainer Nicky Richards will send out Noble Alan in the race. He unseated jockey Brian Harding on his latest start at Market Rasen last month.

Finger Onthe Pulse enters the race having won at Listowel over 2m4f on his previous run, but did finish seventh of eight in this race two years ago.
