Racing as Ascot.
It’s billed as the world’s most famous racetrack and who could deny that, seeing as it’s 300 years old.
I’m talking of course, of Ascot. And with all the talk about Epsom Downs, I would be remiss (as a huge racing fan) if I did not mention Royal Ascot, a racing event that takes place this June 19-23.
I like to bet the races and I’m no fashion hound, but for those who enjoy all the pomp of a truly Royal event, mixed in with top rated racing, the Royal Ascot event is where you need to be in mid June.
It is, some say, the top racing event of the year in the U.K., and one of the top races anywhere in the world.
With luck, I will be there. If not, I’ll be watching on TV.
Look, few would deny Royal Ascot is about fast horses and fancy fashion.
A friend in London tells me that Royal Ascot is Britain’s most popular racing event, and I believe her. I’m not in high society, but it’s where society meets for fun and frolic and betting.
The Royal family (Kate included) is likely to be there.
Racing highlights of Royal Ascot include the Golden Jubilee Stakes and the Gold Cup. Prize money for the week totals millions of pounds!
The Queen, by the way, has enjoyed considerable success at Royal Ascot, having owned many winners including Free Agent, who won the Chesham Stakes in 2008.
As we get closer to the week, I’ll keep you posted on entrants and odds.
