Lord Windermere could start as favourite on Saturday for the Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury after strong support in the bet365 betting this week.
His odds have tumbled into 7/1 for the handicap which has been won in the past by Arkle, Mill House and more recently Denman.
The Irish horse will be looking to follow in the footsteps of last year’s winner Bobs Worth by scoring in the RSA Chase and the Hennessy in the same year.
The seven-year old has not been seen since roaring up the hill at Prestbury Park ahead of Lyreen Legend when going off at 8/1 in the horse racing betting for the contest for novices.
Challengers to Lord Windermere on Saturday include the lightly raced Rocky Creek. Trained by Paul Nicholls, the former champion trainer will be hoping to get a big race win under belt early in the season to get ahead of rival Nicky Henderson in the prize money table.
Rocky Creek has not been seen since coming home third in the Mildmay at Aintree back in April, that was his last assignment in the 2012/13 season. Despite the defeat on his last outing, he did clock up three wins from his five runs during the campaign.
His best success over fences so far in his career so far came at Ascot back in February. He was able to land the Grade Two Reynoldstown Noves’ Chase over 3m when going off 8/13 favourite on bet365.com. He had just four rivals to beat that day as he came home ahead of Houblon Des Obeaux and Tour Des Champs respectively.
Invictus is also expected to make his return to the track this weekend. His last run came in February 2012 where he beat Bobs Worth at Ascot.
